West Virginia State University
Mr Hazo W.CarterJr.
The past year [2006] was a busy and productive one for West Virginia State University. In early April an accreditation team from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools visited the campus. Prior to the visit approximately 150 members of our campus community participated in an intensive self-study to assure that WVSU was successfully meeting the criteria of our accrediting body. The team has recommended that the University’s accreditation be reaffirmed for the maximum ten-year period. The School of Business and Economics also gained accreditation this spring from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The accreditation, which is the first for the department, came as a result of a self-study review that began in the summer of 2004. This academic program is one of five at WVSU that has earned a specialized accreditation. West Virginia State is proud to have been a Tom Joyner Foundation School of the Month for August 2005. The Foundation, established by nationally known radio personality Tom Joyner, supports students at Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs). During the month of August donations from corporate sponsors will be awarded in the form of scholarships to “State” students. Individuals and groups may also donate to the Tom Joyner Foundation on behalf of WVSU throughout the year.
